Garmin Nuvi 200W Review   by Matthew Rizos

The Garmin Nuvi 200W is widescreen GPS device that fits right in your pocket, as well as your budget. The Nuvi 200W is not your basic navigation device as it includes a number of features that add a lot of extra value. If you’re looking for a simple, effective and low cost GPS device, then the Garmin nuvi 200W is for you. Nuvi 200W is basically an entry level GPS unit that has a bright widescreen display, and maps that are preloaded for the US, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

The Garmin Nuvi 200w is ready to go right out of the box. Nuvi 200W is preloaded with maps, including a ton of points of interests such as hotels, restaurants, gas, ATMs and more! The Nuvi 200W also includes a lot of other tools including a JPEG viewer, world clock with time zones, a currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and much more. The Nuvi 200W has an internal antenna which adds to its sleek design. Older Nuvi’s had a flip-up antenna. Nuvi 200W has spoken instructions which are easy to hear and understand, and the maps are easy to read even at night.

The Garmin Nuvi 200W offers almost all of the functions of a top notch in dash system at a fraction of the cost. Its rechargeable lithium ion battery makes it easy for GPS navigation by car or foot. Nuvi 200W is Smart, Powerful and engineered with a highly sensitive WAAS GPS receiver for amazing accuracy, as well as an SD card slot for storing your media and additional navigation tools, and a USB interface for loading data. Nuvi 200W also features an antiglare screen with crystal clear clarity.

Nuvi 200W’s widescreen adds a lot of extra screen real estate. It’s a worthwhile investment since it makes reading and viewing much easier on your eyes and your nerves. Another benefit of the Nuvi 200W’s widescreen is less of that cramped feeling. Maps, icons and controls are not all cluttered together like non widescreen gps devices.

There are a few features missing from this entry level Nuvi such as an MP3 player, no live traffic feeds and no ability to call out upcoming streets (such as “now approaching maple st.”).

If your navigation needs are simple and you just want to get a device that will take you to new destinations, then Nuvi 200W is a great choice. Overall the Garmin Nuvi 200W is a very dependable GPS device with accurate navigation, a beautiful wide screen and some outstanding addons.

New – What does your soul sound like? Mark, a has-been pop star at 40, converts his mother’s attic into a recording studio to find out. Dean, who has AIDS, moves to his native Puerto Rico with his partner to enjoy his last few months of life, only to find himself battling a scheming, homophobic real estate agent who is ultimately trapped by her own wicked plans. With a playful intelligence, Alvarez shows that the real monsters in these stories are the prejudices that keep us silent and invisible

Killer 'Cane: The Deadly Hurricane of 1928

Killer ‘Cane: The Deadly Hurricane of 1928

$4.12

Killer ‘Cane takes place in the Florida Everglades, which was still a newly settled frontier in the 1920s. On the night of September 16, 1928, a hurricane swung up from Puerto Rico and collided, quite unexpectedly, with Palm Beach. The powerful winds from the storm burst a dike and sent a twenty-foot wall of water through three towns, killing over two thousand people, a third of the area’s population. Robert Mykle shows how the residents of the Everglades had believed prematurely that they had tamed nature, how racial attitudes at the time compounded the disaster, and how in the aftermath the cleanup of rapidly decaying corpses was such a horrifying task that some workers went mad. Killer ‘Cane is a vivid description of America’s second-greatest natural disaster, coming between the financial disasters of the Florida real-estate bust and the onset of the Great Depression.

Excerpt: Pedro Espada, Jr. (born 1954) is a member of the New York Senate for the 33rd Senate District. He is currently the New York State Senate Majority Leader and Vice President Pro Tempore for Urban Policy of the Senate. He is at the center of the June 2009 change in power in the Senate, one of two Democratic senators who voted to appoint Republican Dean Skelos as Majority Leader; Espada himself was chosen to be Temporary President. After his return to the Democratic caucus on July 9, 2009, Espada was chosen Majority Leader of the New York State Senate. Espada was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico in 1954 and moved with his family to New York City at the age of five. His family settled in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx, where he attended the New York City Public Schools. He attended Fordham University, where he graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. South Bronx Rising: The Rise, Fall, and Resurrection of an American City

South Bronx Rising: The Rise, Fall, and Resurrection of an American City

$28

Jill Jonnes’s recounting of the rise, fall, and resurrection of the Bronx has become a classic of urban history. In this new edition, she describes in a new final chapter the extraordinary and monumental rebuilding of the borough by the grass-roots groups that was just getting underway in 1984. The original book was hailed as a vivid history of the Bronx from its origins as colonial farmlands to the borough’s 1980s status as one of the nation’s foremost urban disasters. The book tells the colorful story of the Bronx, starting with its development as a New York suburb and boomtown when hundreds of thousands of German, Irish, Italians, and above all, Jewish immigrants flowed into the borough to raise their families. Franklin Delano Roosevelt, assisted by his powerful lieutenant, Boss Ed Flynn, built vast Democratic majorities in the polyglot Bronx into political domination of New York and the nation. After World War II, the Bronx underwent its second boom, beginning with emigrants from Puerto Rico and blacks displaced from Manhattan. On their heels came the camp followers of modern urban poverty: drug dealers, real estate pirates, arsonists. By the mid-1970s the Bronx was burning. Block after block, once given over to working- and middle-class family life, was now utterly destroyed, abandoned, given up on. The teeming, populous Bronx had turned into an American urban desert. This borough, which in its heyday had produced such notable Americans as Clifford Odets, Paddy Cheyefsky, Lauren Bacall, Herman Wouk, Jules Feiffer, Jake LaMotta, Stanley Kubrick, E.L. Doctorow, Neil Simon, and Tony Curtis, now lay in ashes, visible to us mainly as a dreadful object lesson. Yet change was in sight. Even while the worst destruction was taking place, new forces were rising to set aside or remake the tired machinery of government, allying such institutions as the Catholic Church, insurance companies, and dedicated non-profits to rally the Bronx and turn the tide of urban
