Jobs In Real Estate

What major do I need for real estate jobs?
I want to work with real estate and i don’t know what major I need. I don’t want just to buy and sell houses, I want to buy, fix, improve and sell for bigger price. If anyone can tell me the proper name for that kind of profession and what kind of skills and major do you need. College suggestions would be welcomed.
Thank You in advance.
Igor.
You might major in business, but you may also just take real-estate
courses. If you plan to do the labor yourself, you need craft skills such
as framing, drywall, painting, plumbing, electrical, concrete, landscaping, etc. There are contracting courses around as well to teach you to contract the labor out to good reliable craftsmen. Probably, the simplest path would be for you to get a license in real-estate first, make some connections, find a mentor, get some experience. Then you’ll know the next best step.

All Real Estate Is Local: What You Need to Know to Profit in Real Estate – In a Buyer’s and a Seller’s Market $10.99 Grandpa told me the story of the biggest mistake in his life every year until the day he died and he always ended the story with the same advice: Never ignore the local marketplace. Grandpa didn’t research the local real estate market. He made his decision about purchasing the skyscraper his business was located in based on what he read in the newspapers and heard on the radio: Across the nation jobs were scarce and families were struggling to make ends meet. He relied on national trends as well as on his experience of what was happening to those closest to him up in the Bronx where he lived – businesses along the Grand Concourse struggling to survive… Grandpa allowed the ills of the nation and the neighborhood where he lived — which he read and heard about every day — to blind him to the activity and prospects of the local marketplace in which his business was located. He had an opportunity to purchase a fifty-story building on one of the most sought-after retail streets in the world for a deep discount, and he missed it. He ignored the rich potential of Manhattan because he was so focused on the nation and the Bronx. He ignored the gravity and pull of Manhattan because of the dismal stories he heard about Newark, New Jersey and Philadelphia. He learned the hard way that local real estate values are determined by local activity. He had made a mistake that he would not let himself, or me, ever forget. In this book, I am following Grandpa’s lead. My objective is to offer you some valuable lessons on purchasing real estate. My Grandfather was not the only person to make a mistake in real estate. Mistakes are made by many households and investors every year. The common thread among them— they did not pay attention to local influences and activity. I believe that if you master the lessons that I have learned over the years on how to evaluate and purchase real estate the local way—you will become a |

Around Herndon (Images of America Series) $21.99 The town of Herndon is situated on the western edge of Virginia’s picturesque Fairfax County. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, this part of Fairfax County was primarily agricultural, and as additional settlers arrived farming flourished. Early residents found woods, flat open fields, outcroppings of rocks, and workable soil throughout the region. By 1857, the installation of the railroad line brought summer residents, commuters, and real estate developers to the area. Residential growth continued into the 20th century, as more Washington, D.C. workers chose Herndon as a convenient town from which they could commute to their jobs. From 1959 to 1961, the railroad line experienced busy years when it was used to haul sand and construction materials to build neighboring Dulles Airport, which opened in 1962. Although the region has become a center of Internet technology, with several high tech companies located in the area, Herndon still retains a small-town charm. |

Ellington Boulevard $25 Clarinetist Ike Morphy, his dog Herbie Mann, and a pair of pigeons who roost on his air conditioner are about to be evicted from their apartment on West 106th Street, also known as Duke Ellington Boulevard. Ike has never had a lease, just a handshake agreement with the recently deceased landlord; and now that landlord’s son stands to make a killing on apartment 2B.Centering on the fate of one apartment before, during, and after the height of New York’s real estate boom, Ellington Boulevard’s characters include the Tenant and His Dog; the Landlord, a recovered alcoholic and womanizer who has newly found Judaism and a wife half his age; the Broker, an out-of-work actor whose new profession finally allows him to afford theater tickets he has no time to use; the Broker’s New Boyfriend, a second-rate actor who composes a musical about the sale of 2B (“Is there no one I can lien on if this boom goes bust?”). There’s also the Buyer, a trusting young editor at a dying cultural magazine, who falls in love with the Tenant; the Buyer’s Husband, a disaffected graduate student taken to writing bawdy faux-academic papers; and the Buyer’s Husband’s Girlfriend, a children’s book writer with a tragic past. With the humor and poignancy that made Langer’s first novel, Crossing California, a favorite book of the year among critics across the country, Ellington Boulevard is an ode to New York. It’s the story of why people come to a city they can’t afford, take jobs they despise, sacrifice love, find love, and eventually become the people they never thought they’d be—for better and for worse. |
